Όλως τυχαίως έπεσα χτες στα comments του παλιού post των Amboy Dukes, όπου ένας φίλος ζητά να ανεβάσω ξανά το δίσκο.
Επειδή δεν είναι εύκολο να γυρνάω συνέχεια τα παλιά post , όποιος πέσει σε δίσκο που έχω ανεβάσει και το λινκ πλέον δεν δουλεύει, ας μπει στο τελευταίο post που θα έχω βάλει να ζητήσει να ανεβάσω ξανά κάποιο δίσκο. Δεν είναι κόπος.

Ted Nugent and The Amboy Dukes - Survival of the Fittest Live (1971)

Το άλμπουμ αυτό ηχογραφήθηκε της 31 Ιουλίου και 1 Αυγούστου του 1970 στο Eastowne Theatre στο Detroit και είναι ουσιαστικά το 2ο Lp σαν Ted Nugent and The Amboy Dukes στην Polydor πλέον. Ας ξεχάσουμε τους ψυχεδελικούς Amboy Dukes που ξέραμε αφού εδώ είναι με καθαρά rock προσανατολισμούς. Εκτιμώ ότι την «ροκιά» την έχουμε όλοι μέσα μας, συνεπώς…"Slidin' On".

Recorded live at The Eastowne Theater in Detroit, MI, July 31 and August 1, 1970. This is prime slab of Nugent. It is quite clear what was happening with the Amboy Dukes at this point. If the new name "Ted Nugent AND the Amboy Dukes" doesn't give you a clue, the outrageous guitar antics on the live platter will. Steve Farmer is long gone from here, and only Andy Solomon and Ted Nugent remain from the "original" band who had a big hit with "Journey to the Center of the Mind" a couple of years before this concert was recorded. It was obviously the Ted Nugent show gearing up to become one of the biggest heavy metal concert draws of the '70s and early '80s. The 21-minute-and-20-second epic "Prodigal Man," written by Nugent and sung by keyboardist Andy Solomon features a solo by each of the musicians in the band, with 'ol Uncle Ted finishing things up with some of the aforementioned outrageous guitar antics. Papa's Will" is a stinkin' heavy song and riff.

The Amboy Dukes - Journey To The Center Of The Mind (1968)

Και βέβαια οφείλω να ανεβάσω αυτή τη δισκάρα αφού σήμερα είναι η μέρα των Amboy Dukes (θα ακολουθήσει και άλλη ). Εκτιμώ ότι ο συγκεκριμένος δίσκος είναι από τους καλύτερους acid rock που βγήκαν στα 60’s και βέβαια ο καλύτερος των Amboy Dukes. Πιστεύω ότι οι περισσότεροι αν όχι όλοι θα έχετε το δίσκο ή κάποιο cd. Αν όχι, είναι μια ευκαιρία νομίζω έστω και έτσι.

Το ομώνυμο κομμάτι που βάζω τους στίχους και έγινε τελικά το μοναδικό hit των Amboy Dukes, γράφτηκε από τον κιθαρίστα Steve Farmer. Περιγράφει το αίσθημα από ένα acid trip, ωστόσο ο Ted Nugent που δήλωνε ότι δεν είχε πάρει ποτέ «ουσίες» στη ζωή του, νόμιζε πως ήταν απλά η περιγραφή μία εσωτερικής κατάστασης ενός ανθρώπου.

The Amboy Dukes' second album, was released in April 1968 on Mainstream Records 56112 mono (promo only) and stereo S/6112 stereo. It crept into the top 100 and its highest position was #74. The single of the same name peaked at number 16 on the US Billboard Hot 100 pop chart. The album and song were classic examples of acid rock; for example, the original album cover depicted fifty different kinds of marijuana-smoking devices.

The Amboy Dukes – The Amboy Dukes (1967)

Σε παλιότερη αναφορά μου στους Amboy Dukes είχαν μείνει στις πρώτες μέρες της ιστορίας τους. Όταν οι «Δούκες» ξεκίναγαν στο Ντιτρόιτ έστω και για λίγο είχαν στις τάξεις τους τον γνωστό μας Jimmy Page που ωστόσο δεν έγινε ποτέ μέλος της μπάντας. Αντικαταστάθηκε από τον Rod Medeiros που ήρθε από την Βοστόνη. Όμως λίγο αργότερα ο Rod Medeiros αποχώρησε για να ιδρύσει το 1966 τους γνωστούς Tangerine Zoo. Έφτασε λοιπόν η στιγμή για τον νεαρό τότε Ted Nugent να συμφωνήσει με τον Bob Lehnert που τον έφερε και να ενταχθεί στο γκρουπ, αλλάζοντας και το όνομα σε The Nugent Amboy Dukes . Ωστόσο λίγο μετά αποχώρησε ο Bob Lehnert.

Δεν έχουμε πολλά να πούμε για το δίσκο. Ήταν ένα καθ’όλα εξαιρετικό ξεκίνημα από ένα γκρουπ που είχε προσωπικό ήχο και ξεχώριζε από μίλια μακριά λόγω της φωνής του Drake. Ωστόσο τα καλύτερα ήρθαν μετα, με το ανεπανάληπτο και αξεπέραστο Journey To The Center Of The Mind. Από το άλμπουμ τολμώ να ξεχωρίσω το I Feel Free επειδή μου θυμίζει μερικές φοιτητικές στιγμές ξεγνοιασιάς με εκείνο το «τάρταλο» που βλέπεται στο βυθό του Blog, το Psalms Of Aftermath ως προάγγελος του τι θα ακολουθήσει, το It’s Not True που όντως είναι αλλά και την προτροπή του Let's Go Get Stoned.

The Amboy Dukes – Migration (1969)

Καταπιάνομαι με μία μεγάλη μπάντα που θα μας απασχολήσει και άλλες φορές. Το Detroit του Michigan έχει να καμαρώνει για τους Amboy Dukes με ηγέτη τον Ted Nugent. Σε ηλικία 17 ετών ο Ted Nugent βρέθηκε στο Σικάγο όπου άκουσε μία μπάντα με το όνομα Amboy Dukes η οποία διέλυσε εκείνες τις μέρες. Του άρεσε το όνομα και το «δανείστηκε» . όσον αφορά το όνομα ένας λόγος που του άρεσε ήταν γιατί είχε συνδεθεί με συμμορίες γκανγκεστερς από το Μπρούκλιν.
Θα δοθεί πάντως στο μέλλον η ευκαιρία να πούμε περισσότερα για την ιστορία τους.

Αυτός είναι ο 3ος δίσκος των Amboy Dukes που είναι εξίσου ποιοτικός αλλά όχι στο επίπεδο του αξεπέραστου κατά την γνώμη μου 2ου Lp τους, Journey to the Center of the Mind.
Το cd της Repertoire ( REP 4178-WZ) που κυκλοφόρησε τo 1991, περιέχει δύο bonus κομμάτια που έχω συμπεριλάβει στο rar.
