John Phillips - John (1969)

John J. Francis - Breaks, Works And Thoughts (1973)
John J.
Francis – God’s Garden (1973)
John J Francis rose to national prominence with the
vanguard of contemporary Australian singer/songwriters who came to the fore in
the early 70's. Between 1972 and 1974 he released four highly respected studio
albums through Warner Brothers and penned the iconic surf anthem, 'Simple Ben'
as well as scoring an Australian top 10 hit with the single 'Play Mumma, Sing
Me a Song'.
John J Francis' career began in Newcastle, Australia where
he fronted a popular local R n' B band, The Sorrows who became one of the
better known Newcastle bands of that era and in 1965 supported the legendary
Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs, playing to a packed Newcastle Stadium. This
performance won the band several gigs at the legendary Sydney dance venue 'Surf
City' in Kings Cross, and the following year they were asked to support the
Easybeats at a frenetic show in the Newcastle Town Hall…..

Dave Halford – Tulesburg (1973)
στο cataloged) και
"Tulesburg" is
amateurish DIY folkrock with an undercurrent of drug themes, as on "Ride
on your horse". The actual title and contents of the second LP are
unknown. From Oregon or California.
ήταν για αυτό το do it yourself (DIY) project.

Cutts Road - The Answer (1976)
των Christian.
Cutts Road - At The Airport (1976)

Patric (Pat) Calfee - Dayspring (1974)
DaySpring was released in late 1974 on the
MorningStar Records label. The so-called label was actually a design and a name
created by the then 18 year old musician and songwriter Patric Calfee (his
given name is Patrick Calfee, but he thought it looked cooler to drop the 'k'
from the end of his first name).
Patric
had been perfoming and writing Christian music for about 3 years at that time.
The songs on DaySpring had been road tested before audiences throughout the Akron Ohio
area. Performing in "Jesus Movement" coffehouses, concerts, churches
and gatherings, the teenage Calfee had unknowingly become one of the
acknowledged "Fathers" of the still developing Jesus Music scene.
Jesus Music bands from Ohio and western Pennsylvania were
creating inspired expressions of devotion in the context of the current Rock
music, without much of an eye for commerce or self promotion. In fact, at the
time DaySpring came out it was considered a mainstream Rock record by area
radio stations and listeners; the segregation of Jesus Music from the
mainstream rock scene had not yet happened.
Patric Calfee - I'm Happy (1974)
Prior
to going into the studio for DaySpring Patric performed only by himself with
just an acoustic guitar or a piano. He was friends with several other local
Christian musicians who came into the studio to help him out. Al Montgomery (on
Bass) was with another local Christian Band and attended the same fellowship in
Akron, the
Avalon. Al also added some arrangement ideas - and it's him that you hear
singing at the end of "Eyes Of The Lord". Don Pleskach (aka Cab
Jenkins) had his own Christian band and contributed Bass, Drums, created the
bass and drum parts for Gospel Ship, as well as contributing the wah-wah solo
in "Eyes Of The Lord". Unknown to most listeners, the wah-wah solo
was created by Don singing the part into a mic, no instuments or effects were
used . The 2 Sax players on Gospel Ship
were a pair of brothers, Gary and Jeff Schneider, who were friends of Don's.
Dayspring
was recorded on a 4 channel tape recorder, and the mixing board was handmade by
the engineer, Tom Krieger. The recording process was much the same as was used
by the Beatles and other bands in the previous decade. Instruments were
recorded to the 4 channels. Then the 4 channels were mixed down to 2 tracks and
'bounced' (transferred) to a 2 channel tape recorder. The 2 channels were then
bounced back to 2 channels on the 4 channel. The 2 open channels on the 4
channel were then recorded, and finally it was all bounced again to the final 2
channel stereo mix. On each of the transfers another track could be recorded,
so potentially you could record up to 8 separate parts.
The
total recording costs were $315, paid for by Paul Tell, a friend to many
ministries in NE Ohio and throughout the
world. A large part of the manufacturing costs were paid for by another friend,
Mike Giannone.
The
album name, Dayspring, and the label name, Morningstar, were chosen because
they were names for Jesus. When the record was recorded and manufactured there
was never any thought that 40 years later there would still be interest in it.
But the expression of delight and freedom in the Lord heard in this record will
be appreciated by listeners for years to come.

Dwayne Cannan - Spare Change (1980)
στο Edmonton.
Dwayne
Cannan picked up his first guitar at ten but set it down again, concentrating
instead on an odd combination of bull riding and boxing. His interests were
renewed at 17 when a friend from his youth, who had moved away, returned to the
area having developed incredible talent at the guitar during his absence.
The
two hitchhiked around the United States
for a year before returning home to Canada to form a band that featured
Cannan on drums. The guitar, however, kept calling his name. Scraping together
money from his construction job, Cannan entered Edmonton’s Homestead Recorders in June 24-25
1980, with his newly-bought Gibson acoustic in hand.
Dwayne Cannan - Spare Change (1980)
The resulting ten-song album was pressed in a quantity of 300, all of those sold hand-to-hand from the stage. The album was never broadcast and never reviewed, prompting Cannan to take a 25-year break from recording. For Cannan, learning fingerstyle guitar was merely one small project in developing an extensive repertoire of techniques.
He
was disconnected from the movement of guitar players who followed in the
footsteps of John Fahey, but he shared with them a spirit of independence,
rigorous discipline, and love of the guitar.

at Homestead Recorders, Edmonton

Mike Monroe / Castaway - Fred And Anna Vagle/ Fred And Anna Vagle (1973)
τους «Fred And Anna Vagle».
With
its simple arrangements and minimal instrumentation, this split album with
talented artists on both sides is sure to appeal to folk music fans. First up
is singer-songwriter Mike Monroe, who serves up five tunes, four of them
originals. His talent as an acoustic guitarist is clear, and on his cover of
Paul Stookey’s “John Henry Bosworth,” he plays banjo as well. Monroe’s songwriting ability especially
shines on the dreamy “Rus.” He’s joined by Phil Kitchen on 12-string guitar and
background vocals, and Dave Riley on bass.
Mike Monroe – Rus (1973)
Side
two features Fred and Anne Vagle. Ann sings and adds some nice touches on
recorder, piano, and percussion, while Fred plays the guitar and adds
occasional vocals. They also get help from Phil Kitchen and Dave Riley. Anne’s
beautiful, clear voice is showcased on tracks like “Simple Gifts” and the minor
key ballad “The Willow,” one of two songs penned by the Vagles. A Paul Stookey
tune makes an appearance here too; this time it’s a version of his “Sebastian.”
– David Overstreet.
