The Mystic Astrologic Crystal Band - Clip On, Put-On Book (1968)

Ο δίσκος που έχω από την Ιταλική GET BACK (GET 522, 180 gr. του 1991) αναφέρει ως τίτλο του Lp το Clip On, Put-On Book. Από κει και πέρα όπου και να ψάξω στο net, μου το εμφανίζει ως original τίτλο το Clip Out, Put on Book.

Επαναλαμβάνω πάντως ότι σχεδόν όλοι το αναφέρουν ως "Clip Out, Put On The Book" 1968 (Carole 8003) πλην του Joynson.

Tracks:

1. M.A.C.B. Theme
2. Sunbeams and Rainbows
3. I Think I'll Just Lie Here and Die
4. Gaberdene Square
5. Ah Ha Ha Ha
6. Krystalyze
7. Today
8. Yellow Room
9. Authors
10. It's Strange
11. Only Time

Απ' ότι θυμάμαι από το καιρό που τους "έψαχνα" ΚΑΙ οι δυο δισκοι ήταν στην "Carole" και ο δεύτερος του 68 λέγεται ¨"Clip Out, Put on Book"...έλυσα το πρόβλημα τέλη του 90 όταν αγόρασα το καταπληκτικό 2in1 "Flowers Never Cry" με τα 22 tracks... hippie L.A. psychedelic in the summer of flowers,peace....

α και βέβαια to lineup τους :
Steve Hoffman (keyboards, guitar, bass, vocals, marimba, autoharp, piano), Ron Roman (vocals, percussion), John Leighton (bass, guitar, vocals), John Moreland (guitar, sitar), Bob Phillips (drums, percussion, vocals)

Some comments on the group :

A third-tier late-'60s L.A. psychedelic outfit, the Mystic Astrologic Crystal Band were not as weird as their name indicated. They were, more to the point, as trendy as their name led one to believe, recording common-denominator psychedelic pop for the GNP label that emulated much of the form, but delivered little in the way of lasting content. Steve Hoffman wrote all of the group's material, which largely consisted of passable emulations of the Association, the Seeds, and much of the L.A. psychedelic pop that fell between these extremes. Their sound is so anonymous, in fact, that one suspects they were only playing psychedelic music because it was fashionable -- if it were 12 years later, they may have opted to wear skinny ties and sound like the Knack instead. Perhaps that's too harsh an assessment, but there's not much to put your back against on their albums, despite their status as collector's items.

κι εδώ (που είναι αρκετά φερέγγυο) το βλέπω σαν "Clip-Out, Put-On Book!"

The band name, the song titles, the clothing, wow, talk about a period timepiece... The LP offers up an interesting mix of psych and what you'd call sunshine pop. Ive seen a couple of reviews that compare the LP to The Yellow Balloon and the comparison's not too far off, though the affection for the sitar and the production give this a far more distinctive psych edge. Musically the collection's pretty much divided between the two genres, though with interesting production touches to virtually every track - "Early Dawn" shifts from great harmony rich pop to a weird phasing segment and then back. At least to our ears the psychier tracks provide the highlights. Among the more interesting numbers are the sitar propelled "Factory Endeavor" (with an odd series of right to left and back fades), "Barnyard Philosophy" and "Publicly Inclined (To Blow Her Mind)". Rarer second LP is similar in style. There is a CD compilation with most or all of their recordings, "Flowers Never Cry" (Dropout, 1993).
